Advanced Surgery
Advanced soft tissue surgery
One of the many advanced soft tissue surgeries we can perform here at The Arc, is
BOAS surgery
Brachycephalic Obstructive Airway Syndrome
BOAS surgery is specialised soft tissue surgery designed to alleviate breathing difficulties in brachycephalic dog breeds, such as, French Bulldogs, English Bulldogs and Pugs, which often suffer from airway obstruction due to their shortened skulls.
The surgery typically involves removing excess tissue from the;
- Soft Palate: Reducing the size by shortening and thinning the soft palate
- Larynx: Remove the laryngeal saccules
- Nostril: “ Resection Rhinoplasty” by widening the narrowed nostrils
The surgery can greatly enhance a dog’s quality of life, reducing the risk of serious health issues like heat stroke, respiratory distress or even collapse.
The aim is to increase airflow for an improvement in their respiratory function, leading to easier breathing, reduced snoring, better exercise tolerance and an overall well-being.

Advanced orthopaedic surgery
We carry out a range of orthopaedic surgery here at The Arc, of which the most common is the “TPLO”
Tibial Plateau Levelling Osteotomy
TPLO surgery is a highly effective treatment for dogs suffering from a ruptured Cranial Cruciate Ligament (CCL) in the knee.
CCL tears are the most common cause of hindlimb lameness and pain in dogs.
This advanced procedure helps stabilise the knee joint by altering the angle of the tibia and relative to the femur, which helps prevent abnormal movement causing pain and further joint damage.
The goal is to stabilise the joint and eliminate the need for the CCL.
The benefits include dogs returning to normal activity within a few months having regained their mobility and comfort, improving their overall quality of life for active dogs.
